……Both leaders affirm commitment to gender equality, and political participation of youths
Today in Geneva, on the sidelines of the Sixth World Conference of Speakers of Parliaments, Speaker federal house of representatives, Dr Tajudeen Abass joined the President of the Senate, Distinguished Senator Godswill Akpabio, GCON, for a high-level meeting with the Secretary‑General of the Inter‑Parliamentary Union (IPU), Mr. Martin Chungong.
The team had a productive exchange on strengthening Nigeria’s partnership with the IPU in two critical areas – climate action and inclusive governance.
Mr. Chungong commended our National Assembly’s pioneering legislative work, from the Not Too Young to Run campaign to the current Reserved Seats Bill for women, which has the support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.
They also reaffirmed their commitment to:
Advancing gender equality and political participation for women, youths, and persons with disabilities.
Driving climate leadership through the Climate Change Act and over $400 million in the 2025 budget for climate initiatives.
Strengthening intergenerational dialogue through our newly established Standing Committee on Youths in Parliament.
We also discussed global health priorities and assured that our 2025 budget provides for robust interventions to protect vulnerable communities.
Nigeria will continue to be a reliable voice in parliamentary diplomacy, championing climate justice, inclusion, and accountable governance – both at home and on the world stage.
