
The Akwa Ibom State Police Command today joined the rest of the nation to commemorate the 70th Anniversary of Women in the Nigeria Police Force, an important milestone celebrating the contributions, resilience, and trailblazing achievements of policewomen.
To mark the historic occasion, the Akwa Ibom State Command Women embarked on a symbolic road work across major streets in Uyo, demonstrating strength, unity, and the enduring spirit of service that defines policewomen across generations.
A statement signed by the command public relations officer DSP Timfon John said the exercise was also aimed at promoting physical fitness, team bonding, and public engagement as part of the nationwide celebration.
As part of the activities, female officers of the Command paid a courtesy visit to retired policewomen who served the Force with distinction.
The visit featured presentations of gift and moments of reflection on the sacrifices and contributions of the pioneers whose dedication laid the foundation for today’s progressive strides in gender inclusion within the Force.
Receiving the policewomen at their residences, the retired officers — ACP Ini Akpabio (Rtd), ACP Elizabeth Mfon (Rtd), and SP Rachel Esin (Rtd) expressed deep appreciation for the visit, describing it as a gesture of honour, empathy, and respect for the legacy of service. They encouraged serving officers to remain committed, disciplined, and steadfast in their duties.
The Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom State Command, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, fsi, commended the women for their active involvement in policing and their remarkable contributions to intelligence, investigation, community relations, administration, and operational duties. He described the 70 -year journey as one marked by courage, sacrifice, and excellence.
He further emphasized the commitment of the Command to continue promoting gender balance, welfare, and opportunities for female officers, noting that the Nigeria Police Force has evolved into a more inclusive institution where women now serve as Commissioners of Police, Tactical Commanders, Heads of Units, and in other strategic roles.
The Akwa Ibom State Police Command congratulates all policewomen serving and retired on this remarkable 70- year milestone and appreciates their unwavering contributions to safety and national development.
