Zamfara State Government has appealed to Islamic clerics across Nigeria to remember the state in their prayers, as it continues to grapple with persistent cases of banditry and kidnapping for ransom.
The state Acting Governor, Mani Malam Mummuni (Masamar Mudi), made the call during a speech at the public presentation of a book authored by the late Sheikh Abubakar Mahmud Gummi, titled “Where I Stand.” The book, recently translated into Arabic by Dr. Ibrahim Jalo Jalingo launched at Yar’Adua Hall in Kaduna.
In his remarks, Mani Mummuni prayed to Almighty Allah to expose anyone aiding bandits in whatever form—whether through support, sponsorship, or other means—and invoked divine judgment on those in positions of authority who have the capacity to end the violence but choose to remain silent.
He further noted that, as Sheikh Abubakar Mahmud Gummi was originally from Zamfara State, it is the responsibility of the state government to support the dissemination of his intellectual contributions.
The Matawallen Bukkuyum further assured the leadership of the Izalatul Bid’ah wa Iqamatus Sunnah (Izala) movement that, upon the return of Governor Dauda Lawal, the state government would meet with them to determine the next line of action.
The Acting Governor also expressed gratitude to the organizers of the event and all attendees, praying for their safe return to their respective destinations.
In his appreciation remarks, the National President of the Izala group, Sheikh Bala Lau, commended the Zamfara State Government and Governor Dauda Lawal for their continued support and commitment.
A statement signed by the press secretary office of the deputy governor, Shehu Adamu Gusau said the Acting Governor was accompanied by the State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Engr. Ahmad Garba Yandi, several local government chairmen, and other members of the state delegation.
