The Executive Chairman of Zaria Local Government Council, Engr. Jamil Ahmad Muhammad Jaga, has marked his first anniversary in office with a large-scale empowerment programme aimed at promoting economic independence and social inclusion across the council area
.The event, held in Zaria, brought together top political figures, traditional leaders, and community stakeholders to celebrate a year of impactful grassroots governance under his administration.
Speaking during the ceremony, Chairman Jaga described the past year as “a journey defined by learning, service, and unwavering commitment to the wellbeing and development of our people
.” He emphasized that the empowerment initiative was designed to uplift vulnerable groups and foster self-reliance among residents of Zaria Local Government.
As part of the activities to commemorate the milestone, 250 widows and mothers of orphans each received ₦100,000 in financial support to boost their small-scale businesses.
In addition, persons with special needs and youths were empowered with brand-new POS machines and ₦50,000 start-up capital to enable them to establish sustainable micro-enterprises.This was contained in a statement signed by Ishaq Galadima chief press secretary to the chairman zaria local government issued to newsmen.
The programme attracted prominent dignitaries, including Members of the Kaduna State House of Assembly — Hon. Engr. Isa Haruna Mohammad (IHAMO) and Hon. Mahmud Lawal (Bola Ige); Malam Iliyasu Balarabe (DCOS), Dr. Hamisu Kubau (S.A. Political), Alh. Aminu Ramalan (S.A. Monitoring and Evaluation), Mal. Sama’ila Yesko (S.A./CCO), Abdulganiyu Bala (S.A. Agriculture), Hon. Yakubu Soja and Federal Commissioner Jakadan Zazzau, among others.
Traditional and religious leaders were also in attendance, including the District Heads of Birni da Kewaye and Waje, Barr. Aisha Ahmad Muhammad (Adda), Secretary/Legal Adviser, KADIRS, Alh. Aminu Kalila (APC Chairman), Hon. Auwal Balarabe (Speaker, Zaria Legislative Council), alongside esteemed Ulamas and the CAN Chairman.
Chairman Jaga extended heartfelt appreciation to Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, Ph.D, GCON, Speaker, House of Representatives, for his continuous mentorship and generosity.
The Speaker empowered 80 additional women with ₦100,000 each and sponsored five students on full international scholarships to Malaysia, each receiving an extra $1,000 pocket allowance.In recognition of the Speaker’s enduring support for youth and women empowerment,
Chairman Jaga presented permanent and pensionable employment letters to 34 beneficiaries at NARICT, describing the gesture as a “tangible reflection of leadership that inspires hope and transforms lives.
”He also commended His Excellency, Senator Uba Sani, the Executive Governor of Kaduna State, for his visionary leadership and continued guidance in strengthening grassroots governance and ensuring effective service delivery in Zaria.
The one-year anniversary celebration underscored the Jaga administration’s focus on inclusive development, empowerment, and education — values that continue to define his leadership since assuming office in 2024.
