A Reflection by the Chief Press Secretary To The Executive Chairman, Zaria Local Government.

As Engr. Jamil Ahmad Muhammad Jaga marks one year in office as the Executive Chairman of Zaria Local Government Council, the administration reflects on a year defined by purposeful leadership, inclusive governance, and tangible community impact.
Guided by a vision of progress rooted in accountability and service delivery, the Council has achieved remarkable strides across key sectors — notably in education, health, infrastructure, youth empowerment, and agriculture.
Education and Youth Empowerment the administration placed education at the heart of its development agenda, recognizing it as the cornerstone of empowerment and sustainable progress.- Need-Based Scholarship Scheme:
Over 500 students in tertiary institutions benefited from a new scholarship program — the first of its kind in the history of Zaria Local Government — designed to promote inclusiveness and reduce dropout rates.- Full Sponsorship for JAMB and NECO:
The Council fully sponsored 1,000 JAMB registrations and 500 NECO fees, encouraging secondary school completion and increasing tertiary enrollment.- Support for Academic Excellence: The Top 10 highest JAMB scorers in Zaria’s history received full tuition and registration sponsorship through university..
Education Infrastructure: The administration completed two blocks of classrooms, a drainage system, and the renovation of a kitchen at the Orphanage Home, Tukur-Tukur,
improving the learning environment for special-needs students.- Employment and School Security: 183 security guards were employed and deployed across primary schools to create job opportunities and enhance safety in learning environments.-
Educational Support: Learning materials and instructional equipment were distributed to primary schools across the local government.Infrastructure and Public Utilities Zaria’s physical and social infrastructure has received unprecedented attention under Chairman Jaga’s administration, with emphasis on accessibility, functionality, and sustainability.-
Ongoing Road Construction with Drainage Systems: Kakaki Road, Kwarbai B Gidan Magajin Gari Road, Kwarbai A Gangare Road, Tudun Wada- Council Secretariat Rehabilitation: Renovation of the female toilet, upgrade of the perimeter wall, office renovations, and construction of new drainage systems
– Electricity Restoration: Rehabilitation of damaged transformers at Tudun Wada, Asibitin Gambo Sawaba, WTC Anguwan Kaya, and Wucicciri. Installation of new transformers in Bambale, Kwarbai B, Kan Tudu, and Kofar Galadima.
– Fire Service Infrastructure: The construction of a Federal Fire Service Building at the Abdulra’uf Jisambo Complex, Kwarbai B- Public Sanitation Initiatives:
A public toilet was built at the Works Department and six VIP toilets with ablution areas constructed at Gidan Kano Jumu’at Mosque, Kaku- Solar Energy for Religious Centres: Solar-powered inverters were installed in five major Mosques security and Law Enforcement
The administration has also prioritised security and law enforcement, with notable achievements including:- Establishment of Hisba Board: Strengthening the fight against moral vices and promoting a more just and orderly society.- Bills on Prohibition of Sale and Consumption of Narcotics Substances:
Legislative efforts to curb the menace of substance abuse and protect the youth.- Bills on Environmental Sanitation and Safety: Promoting a clean and safe environment for all residents.
Commitment to Security chairman Jaga has demonstrated a strong commitment to security, working closely with security agencies to contain emerging threats. He has worked tirelessly, often at odd hours, to address security concerns and ensure the safety of residents.
His timely interventions in incidents at Gyallesu/Anguwan Almajirai and lately Kwarin Dangoma, and other sensitive areas (best kept confidential for security reasons) reflect his proactive and people-first approach to governance.
Health Care Improvement public health remained a central focus of the administration’s service delivery efforts, with major upgrades and proactive responses to community health challenges.- PHC Kwaba, Dutsen Abba Ward: Upgraded with new doctors’ quarters, perimeter fencing, public conveniences, and a drainage system- PHC Jakara Kusfa, Limancin Kona Ward:
Comprehensive renovation and expansion works- Health Facility Security: 40 security guards were employed to safeguard all primary healthcare centres- Medical Support and Logistics: Continuous provision of medical supplies- Disease Outbreak Response: Swift deployment of emergency funding, medical supplies, and preventive fumigation- Free Essential Drugs: All PHCs received essential drugs at no cost- Medical Assistance:
Over ₦20 million in financial and medical aid was provided to indigent patients and vulnerable Residents agricultural Development and Food Security Recognizing agriculture as the backbone of rural livelihoods, the administration implemented several initiatives to enhance productivity and ensure food security.- 2025 CBPP & PPR Vaccination Campaign: Thousands of livestock were vaccinated- Abattoir Rehabilitation: The Dorayi and Danmagaji slaughterhouses were upgraded- Support for Vulnerable Households: Over 500 households benefited from food distributions- Nursery Farm Development:
The local government’s nursery farm was upgraded and Fenced Vision Sustained by Service in just one year, the Jaga-led administration has redefined local governance through innovation, accountability, and people-centered initiatives.
