The First Lady of Zamfara State, Huriyya Dauda Lawal, has officially flagged off the 2026 Ramadan Food Distribution Programme, marking the third consecutive year of sustained humanitarian support to vulnerable households across the state.

The flag-off ceremony, held in Shinkafi Local Government Area, signalled the commencement of the distribution of 50,000 Ramadan food packages across the state’s 147 political wards.

According to Hajiya Huriyya, the initiative underscores the administration’s commitment to ensuring that vulnerable families observe the holy month of Ramadan with dignity and comfort.

In a statement issued by the Press Secretary to the First Lady, Rabi Yusuf said the programme was designed as a deliberate intervention aimed at easing economic hardship and strengthening social support for the less privileged during the fasting period.

Each food package contains essential items carefully selected to meet household needs, including 20 kilograms of rice, five kilograms each of beans, sugar, millet and maize, as well as salt, vegetable oil, spaghetti, and wrappers for women.

To ensure transparency and accountability in the distribution process, ward-level distribution committees have been inaugurated across the state while the committees are working closely with local government authorities and community stakeholders to guarantee that the items reach the intended beneficiaries.

The First Lady charged committee members to uphold integrity and fairness, stressing that leadership is a sacred trust that must be exercised responsibly.

She expressed appreciation to the Executive Governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal, for his compassionate and people-centred leadership, reaffirming that the administration remains committed to prioritising the welfare of the most vulnerable segments of society.

In continuation of the outreach, she visited several communities across Shinkafi, Bazai, Kaura Namoda and Zurmi emirates, where she personally distributed additional Ramadan and Sallah support materials.
