The Yobe State Government has engaged the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) preparatory for the full-scale commencement of operations at the Muhammadu Buhari International Cargo Airport (MBICA), Damaturu.
The State delegation led by Commissioner for Transport and Energy, Hon. Muhammad Muhammad Bara, accompanied by the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Mustapha Abba Geidam, FCVSN had fruitful deliberations with the Director-General, Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), Professor Charles Anosike.
A statement signed by Dr Mustapha Abba Geidam Fcvsn Permanant Secretary ministry of Transport and Energy , said the discussions centered on the ongoing technical requirements for full aviation readiness of the Airport.
NiMet has confirmed satisfaction with the report presented on installation of meteorological equipment when its inspection team went on assessment tour of the airport on two occasions.
“The equipment has met the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards for aerodrome operations” NIMT confirmed.NiMet however recommended installation of additional mini weather station close to the Control Tower to enhance accessibility and improve real-time data collection for aviation weather forecasting.
His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Yobe State, Hon. (Dr.) Mai Mala Buni CON assured that the government would provide the additional facilities as advised by NiMet to ensure successful commencement of commercial flights from the airport.
“We are fully committed to ensuring that the Muhammadu Buhari International Cargo Airport meets all technical and safety requirements for seamless operations.
“This airport is key to our drive to economic diversification. It will open Yobe State to global opportunities in trade, tourism, and air transport, therefore, we will not compromise on standards” he assured.
