*Emphases Fine and Applied Arts Marketable Course
The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Education, Zaria, Prof. Yahaya Isa Bunkure, has charged the Department of Fine and Applied Arts to strengthen its capacity through innovation, research and strategic partnerships.
A statement signed by Sani Lawal maqarphy media aide to the VC said the Vice-Chancellor gave the charge while receiving staff members of the Department of Fine and Applied Arts, Faculty of Vocational and Technical Education, who paid him a courtesy visit led by the Head of Department, Dr. Saleh Rakiya.
Dr. Saleh explained that the visit was to formally congratulate the Vice-Chancellor and to brief him on the creative outputs of students of the Department.
She highlighted various artistic works produced by the students, including murals and designs executed on some structures within the University.
In his response, Prof. Bunkure commended the Department for its creativity and contributions to the aesthetic development of the institution.
He further charged the new Head of Department to provide purposeful leadership towards restructuring and developing the Department in line with current trends and the University’s vision.
The Vice-Chancellor also called on the Department to evolve strategies for attracting more students, stressing that Fine and Applied Arts is a viable, relevant, and marketable course to study.
He additionally encouraged holders of the Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) and other certificates in Fine and Applied Arts to take advantage of the opportunity to enroll in the Department’s undergraduate programmes.
During the visit, the Department presented a portrait of the Vice-Chancellor drawn by a student of the Department, showcasing the artistic talent and creative capacity of its students.
The Vice-Chancellor received them together with the Ag. Registrar, Mal Shehu Iya Sa’idu and Ag. Bursar, Mal. Muhammad Kabiru Aliyu.
