The Armed Forces of Nigeria says it has recorded significant operational successesacross its theatres of operation in the country in 2025.
The Director, Defence Media Operations, Major General Michael Onoja, made thisknown at a news briefing in Abuja while presenting a comprehensive overview of military operations conducted nationwide within the year, highlighting achievements,and the resilience of troops in the face of complex security challenges.
According to him, in 2025 alone, troops across its six theatres of operation arrested 4,375 suspects linked to terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, and other criminal activities,while 1,16 terrorists and their family members surrendered to the military.
The lists of the eliminated top terrorist commanders, their lieutenants and their foot soldiers, include; Aminu Kanawa, Dan Bokolo, Bello Buba, Dan Inna, Halilu Sabubu, Abu Dan Shehu Jabbi, Dogo Bashin Yellow, Abba Allai (aka Amirul Khalid of Alafa), Amir Abu Fatimah, Kingpin Auta, Abdul Jamilu, Salisu, Malla Jidda, Talha, Malam Umar, Abu Yazeed, Kabiru Bebe, Maiwada, Mai Dada and Nwachi Eze (aka Onowu).
The military also destroyed 503 illegal refineries, foiled oil thefts worth 8.9 bilion naira, while 2336 kidnapped hostages were successfully rescued.
The Director said the purported influx of armed herders into certain communities is being viewed seriously by the Armed Forces of Nigeria in collaboration with sister security agencies Urging communities to maintain vigilance, and to promptly report any suspicious movements or activities to the nearest security agencies’ formations.
Major General Onoja emphasized that the Armed Forces remained focused on safeguarding Nigeria’s sovereignty, protecting lives and property and ensuring a secure environment for economic activities to thrive.
He said that the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Olufemi Oloyede personally conveys his commendations for the bravery and professionalism of the troops involved in all operations, assuring of DHQ’s continued efforts to ensure the safety and security of our citizens
