I am deeply saddened by the passing of a towering royal icon – the Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland, Oba (Dr.) Sikiru Kayode Adetona, who transited yesterday at the age of 91.
To the great people of Ijebuland, I mourn with you. A king does not die without shaking the earth, and indeed, the weight of this loss is felt far beyond the borders of Ogun State.
Oba Adetona was not just a monarch; he was a beacon of truth, a custodian of dignity, and a father to all. For nearly 65 years, he ruled with uncommon courage and sincerity of purpose – guiding generations with wisdom, rallying his people toward unity, and transforming Ojude Oba into a cultural marvel that now draws the eyes of the world to Ijebu.
It is almost surreal that on the same day, our dear nation lost another giant – former President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR. Two great men. Two different thrones. One day. One grief.
I pray that Allah (SWT) receives Oba Sikiru Adetona in Jannatul Firdaus and comforts the Ijebu people and the government of Ogun State in this difficult moment.
The legacies of true men never die. The Awujale lives on – in hearts, in heritage, and in history.
