The Director-General/Chief Executive of the Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT), Zaria, Dr. Bayero Salih Farah, has called for stronger collaboration between the Institute and the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) to enhance manpower development, research, and innovation within Nigeria’s maritime and port sectors.
Dr. Farah made the call during a courtesy visit to the Managing Director and Chief Executive of NPA, Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, at the Authority’s headquarters in Lagos.
This is contained in a statement from the public relations unit of NITT Zaria issued to newsmen.
According to the NITT boss, the time has come for both institutions to work more closely to strengthen key areas of the maritime industry. He outlined four major areas of partnership — capacity building and training; research and development; technology and innovation; and staff development and exchange.
Dr.Salih Farah noted that NITT, as Nigeria’s apex transport training and research institute, has over the years trained many NPA personnel in both long- and short-term programmes, but emphasized the need to scale up such engagements. In the DG’s words:
“The Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology strongly believes that the strength of our nation’s transport sector lies in collaboration, innovation, and human capacity development. By working hand in hand, NITT and NPA can help build a world-class maritime system — one that supports trade, drives growth, and creates jobs.
”Responding, the Managing Director of NPA, Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, commended NITT for its sustained efforts in advancing transport sector professionalism and pledged the Authority’s commitment to renewed collaboration.
Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho assured that the NPA would increase its patronage of NITT’s training and research programmes while also exploring additional areas of partnership, such as citing some Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives at the Institute.
The visit marks another milestone in the ongoing efforts by NITT to foster stronger institutional linkages with key stakeholders in Nigeria’s transport and logistics sector.
