
Nigerian Army’s 1 Brigade Conducts Free Medical Outreach in Zamfara CommunityThe 1 Brigade Headquarters of the Nigerian Army in Gusau has carried out a free medical outreach for residents of Rawayya community in Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The initiative was part of the 2025 Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL) activities.Brigadier General Timothy Opurum, Commander of the Brigade, led the exercise aimed at fostering stronger civil-military relations and demonstrating the Army’s commitment to public health and community welfare.

The outreach, held at Government Day Secondary School, Rawayya, offered free medical consultations, drug distribution, eye examinations, blood pressure checks, health counselling, and other essential services. Hundreds of residents, particularly women and the elderly, benefited from the programme.“We don’t only rely on force; we also carry out humanitarian missions like this to connect with the people,” said Brig Gen Opurum.

He emphasized that the outreach aligns with the Army’s civil-military cooperation efforts and reflects the spirit of NADCEL 2025, which commemorates 162 years of the Nigerian Army’s existence.

Students of the host school also received free exercise books and other educational materials.The District Head of Rawayya, Alhaji Abubakar Rashi, expressed appreciation on behalf of the community, describing the outreach as an unprecedented and much-needed intervention.“This is a remarkable gesture by the Army. We deeply appreciate it and pray for their continued success in maintaining peace,” Rashi said.
