The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has announced a review of the 2026 Hajj fare to make the spiritual journey more affordable for intending pilgrims.Pilgrims from the Maiduguri/Yola Zone will now pay N7,579,020.96, down from N8,118,033.67, while those from the Northern Zone will pay N7,696,769.76, reduced from N8,244,813.67.The Southern Zone fare has been revised to N7,991,141.76 from N8,561,013.67.
These reductions calculated using an exchange rate of N1,443 per US Dollar, translate into savings of N539,013, N548,043.91, and N569,871.91 for the respective zones.
In a statement, Fatima Sanda Usara, Deputy Director of Information and Public Relations at NAHCON, said the revision ensures fairness and compliance with Saudi Arabia’s payment framework, urging all intending pilgrims and state authorities to complete their payments promptly to secure slots for the 2026 Hajj.
The Commission emphasised that previous slots allocation to states has been cancelled, and pilgrims will now secure slots on a first-come-first-served basis, depending on the timing of their payments.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Forum of States, Alhaji Idris Almakura, called on members to conclude their assignments in Saudi Arabia as quickly as possible and return to Nigeria to mobilise for Hajj registration, stressing the urgency of meeting Nigeria’s quota for the pilgrimage.
NAHCON has also set a new payment deadline of 5th December 2025 to allow sufficient time for transfers into its IBAN account ahead of the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah’s 21st December deadline for basic services contracts.
It could be recalled that in October this year, President Bola Tinubu approved a review of the 2026 Hajj fare.
The directive, conveyed through Vice President Kashim Shettima, instructed NAHCON to develop a more affordable fare to ease the financial burden on intending pilgrims.
