The Kebbi State Government, has debunked rumour alleging that it has distributed sub-standard fertilisers to farmers in the state for this year’s farming.
The government described the allegation as not only untrue but also a plot to black paint the people’s governor in the eyes of hard working farmers of the state.
Addressing journalists on Thursday in his office in Birnin Kebbi, the Commissioner for Agriculture, Alh. Shehu Ma’azu, expressed dismay over the allegation, saying that the entire message was baseless and misleading.
“It could be recalled that some members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the state, went on air claiming that the Kebbi State Government had distributed sub-standard fertilisers mixed with sand to farmers.
According to him, this allegation is totally false and it is misleading the general public. “The state government has never procured a sub-standard fertilizer, talk less of distributing it to farmers.
“It is pertinent to note that, the state government has not awarded any contract for the procurement of fertilisers, instead, it procured the commodity directly from a reputable indigenous company for onward distribution to farmers.
However, the Commissioner called on the opposition parties in the State to always verify their information before levelling any allegations.
Ma’azu advised the good people of Kebbi State to disregard such information, insisting that the Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Nasir Idris was doing everything possible to supply genuine and standard fertilizers to farmers free of charge to enhance their revenue base and boost food security.
The three fertilizer companies engaged by the State Government for the supply of fertilizer were: Maccat Agro Limited, Danmadami Fertilizer blending plant and Context while Mairiga company was engaged by the Local Governments for the procurement of the fertilizer.
