Gov Uba Sani of Kaduna State, has pledged his commitment in working with the national water resources institute on capacity building and finding solutions to water related problems.

The Governor stated this when he received the management of the institute, led by the Director General and Chief Executive officer,Dr Abduljalal Danbaba, at Sir Kashim Ibrahim House, Kaduna. The visit was for a thoughtful and forward looking engagement on strategic collaboration.

He explained that “Our discussions centred on capacity development, applied research, institutional strengthening, and the advancement of comprehensive water resources management for Kaduna State”.

The Governor reaffirmed the state government’s firm position that access to clean, safe, and potable water is not a privilege, but a fundamental human right. When we assumed office, the water sector was in deep distress, with production hovering at a mere eight percent.

According to the Governor, in response, our administration made a deliberate and historic commitment, earmarking between ₦93 billion and ₦100 billion from 2024 to 2027 to comprehensively overhaul the sector.

Uba Sani maintained that already, the government has invested ₦5 billion in replacing critical pipelines in Zaria and Kafanchan, committed ₦10 billion to key transmission lines within Kaduna metropolis, and expended ₦1.4 billion on essential treatment chemicals.

He Said his administration has cleared ₦1.3 billion in inherited electricity debts, restored stalled operations, and raised water production from eight percent to over thirty percent, with a clear target of full coverage by late 2026.

Equally important, we have prioritised staff welfare through the settlement of ₦900 million in inherited salary arrears and the allocation of land for a dedicated housing scheme.

To deepen institutional capacity, the Governor said “we have provided land for new NWRI branches in Zaria and Kachia and called for the restoration of the historic AWS School in Barnawa”.
