KBSG Flags off MNCH Week Round Two Aimed at Reducing Maternal, Child Mortality

Kebbi state government has flagged off the round two of the MNCH week with assurance to improve Health Care for mothers and children so as to reduce maternal and child mortality.

The event marks the beginning of a week-long Nationwide campaign to deliver high impact low cost intervention aimed at reducing maternal and child mortality.

In a keynote address, the state Commissioner for health, Alhaji Yakubu Samaila Augi, stressed the importance of collective action, saying that every mother and child deserves a healthy start in life.

The Commissioner further stated that this week’s event is not just about service but meant to live and build healthy Communities.

According to him, the service to be provided include routine immunization Antenatal services,Deworming, Vitamin A supplementation, Nutrition Screening as well as Health education.

He said the state government was determined to sustain the routine immunization programs and reduce the issue of maternal mortality in the state.

Also speaking, the Executive Secretary, State Primary Health Care Development Agency, represented by a Director in the agency, Nasiru Muhammad Yauri, called on community leaders, stakeholders, health workers, and partners to mobilize and make sure no child or mother is left behind, reiterating the Commitments of the state government support towards the MNCH week.

Partners who spoke at the event include the state coordinator of Helen Keller, Alhaji Aminu Sarkin Rima who highlighted the importance of nutrition in children and therefore called on mothers and pregnant women to always visit healthcare facilities for their betterment. Other partners that supported the program include UNICEF and Medicine San Francisco’s.

Highlight of the event was Healthcare workers, community leaders, and stakeholders came out en masse to support the initiative, and also mothers expressed gratitude for the free services rendered to them with many improvements in access and awareness.
