The Kano State Government has dismissed as false allegations circulating on social media and in sections of the press that ₦6.5 billion was diverted from the state government account
The denial is contained in a statement signed by the Director General, Media and Publicity, Government House, Sanusi Bature DawakinTofa, following a publication by an online medium which claimed that the Director General of Protocol at Government House, Alhaji Abdullahi Ibrahim Rogo, was central to the alleged misappropriation of funds.
According to the statement, the matter is already before the High Court, but that the state government felt compelled to clarify details of how the Directorate of Protocol operates.
It explained that all cash inflows and outflows into Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) are budgeted and guided by fiscal policy codes, stressing that no official handles public funds without due process.
It added further that the Directorate of Protocol is primarily responsible for logistics, accommodation, welfare, and management of the governor’s itineraries, as well as hosting visiting dignitaries, including the Presidency, foreign envoys, and ministers.
The statement explained that the Yusuf administration reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and zero tolerance for corruption, insisting that the allegations are part of an orchestrated smear campaign by opposition elements ahead of the 2027 elections.
“We are aware that the opposition has even set up an office solely for writing petitions against officials of this administration,”
The state government emphasized that it welcomes lawful criticism but warned that it would not tolerate deliberate misinformation or media trials intended to damage the reputation of its officials.
“The allegations being peddled are nothing more than fiction, carefully crafted by political opponents. This government remains committed to accountability and prudent use of public funds. No amount of propaganda will derail our resolve,”
It therefore urged the people of Kano to disregard the allegations and remain assured that the government is focused on delivering good governance, improving lives, and protecting public resources.
