The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has recorded another major operational breakthrough in its sustained crackdown on illegal arms manufacturing and proliferation across the State.Sequel to an earlier operation conducted on 17th March 2026, operatives of the Command, acting on credible intelligence and intensive surveillance, on 18th March 2026 at about 0745hrs, successfully apprehended one Umo Udoh (M) of Ibiaku Uruan Village, Uruan Local Government Area.
A statement signed by the command public relations officer DSP Timfon John on behalf of the state commissioner of police Baba Mohammad Azare said preliminary investigations reveal that the suspect is a key arms fabricator who had been actively involved in the illicit production of firearms and was responsible for training other suspects earlier arrested by the Command.
The suspect has since confessed to the crime.
It said items recovered from the suspect include:
• One Dane gun
• One dismantled single-barrel gun
• One gun butt
The Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom State Command, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, fsi, has reiterated the Command’s unwavering commitment to identifying, dismantling, and prosecuting all illegal arms manufacturing networks and their collaborators across the State.
The Command hereby warns all individuals engaged in the illegal fabrication, possession, or distribution of firearms to immediately desist from such criminal activities or face the full weight of the law.
There will be no safe haven for criminal elements within Akwa Ibom State.Meanwhile, investigations are ongoing to apprehend other members of the syndicate and ensure they are brought to justice.
The Command further calls on members of the public to continue to support the Police with credible and timely information, as collective vigilance remains critical in sustaining the prevailing peace and security in the State.
