JUST IN: MILITARY OPERATIONS: ARMED FORCES ARREST 450 TERRORISTS

The Armed Forces of Nigeria have continued to record successes against terrorists and other criminal elements across its six theatre operations.

The Director Defence Media Operations, Major General Michael Onoja, made this known in Abuja during its monthly media briefing on the activities and operations of the military in some parts of the country.

The six theatre operations set up by the military around the country to address cases of insecurity are Operation Hadin Kai in the North East, Operation Fansan Yamma in the North West, Operation Whirl stroke and Operation Enduring Peace in the North Central, Operation Udoka in the South East and Operation Delta safe in the South South .

The Director Defence Media Operations, Major General Michael Onoja, said the six theatre operations in the month of January 2026, neutralised scores and arrested more than 450 terrorists and other criminals, about 280 kidnapped victims, were rescued while 53 illegal refining sites were destroyed.

During the month under review, 44 terrorists and their families surrendered to the military while 80 militants also surrendered with eight Cameroonian nationals rescued along Bakassi water ways in the South South region of the country.

Major General Onoja,said large caches of arms and ammunition, vehicles and rusted livestock were also recovered.

The Director Defence Media Operations said the sustained military operations across the country was a reflection of the Armed Forces unwavering commitment to safeguard lives and property as well as critical national assets.

He also expressed the armed forces resolve to sustain pressure on criminal elements, strengthen Inter- agency collaboration, and work closely with local communities to ensure lasting peace.
