The Commander Infantry Corps (CIC) of the Nigerian Army, Major General Godwin Mutkut, on Tuesday, 2 December 2025, paid a courtesy visit to the Commandant Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), Major General Oluyemi Thomas Olatoye, at the Headquarters NDA Afaka Kaduna.
Major General Godwin, who was accompanied by a delegation of senior officers, was received by the Commandant and Principal Staff Officers of the Academy.
A statement signed by Major Reuben Kovangiya Academy Public Relations issued to newsmen said the visit was aimed at strengthening institutional ties and enhancing training collaboration between the Infantry Corps and the Nigerian Defence Academy.
During the engagement, discussions focused on key areas of mutual interest, ongoing training programmes, and continuous professional development for officers and cadets of the Academy.
In his remarks, Major General Mutkut stated that his visit to the NDA was a mark of respect to the institution where his military career began 36 years ago.
He noted that the training, discipline, and values he acquired as a cadet at the Academy profoundly shaped his career trajectory and contributed significantly to his professional advancement in the Nigerian Army.
He underscored the importance of deepening cooperation between the Infantry Corps and the NDA, describing both as critical pillars in the development of professional military manpower for the Nigerian Army.
The CIC further highlighted that the Infantry remains the most populated and operationally engaged corps in the service.
Responding, the Commandant NDA, Major General Olatoye, expressed gratitude for the visit, describing Major General Mutkut as a distinguished officer whose presence was both significant and symbolic.
He revealed that the visit was the first official courtesy call he had received since his appointment as Commandant.
Major General Oluyemi also congratulated the CIC on his appointment, acknowledging the Infantry Corps as the workhorse of the Nigerian Army.
He reaffirmed the NDA’s commitment to supporting and collaborating with the Corps in all areas of shared interest, emphasising the Academy’s mandate to produce officers grounded in discipline, moral integrity, and professional excellence.
The visit concluded with the signing of the visitors’ book, exchange of souvenirs, and a group photograph, marking a warm, cordial, and productive engagement between both institutions.
