……..Urged communities to support the ongoing Revaccination campaign.
In a proactive response to the recent outbreak of diphtheria in some parts of Zaria Local Government Area, the Chairman, Engr. Jamil Ahmad Muhammad Jaga, has taken decisive measures to curb the spread of the disease and protect the lives of residents, especially children.
The Local Government has commenced an intensive revaccination campaign across nine wards identified with high prevalence of diphtheria cases.
These include Kwarbai ‘A’, Kwarbai ‘B’, Tudun Wada, Tukur-Tukur, Kaura, Unguwan Juma, Limancin Kona, Unguwan Fatika, and Gyallesu.
A statement signed by the Chief press secretary office of the chairman, Ishaq Galadima said the campaign follows alarming reports of infections and the unfortunate loss of young lives within these communities.
Upon receiving the report, Engr. Jaga immediately directed health officials to swing into action, approving the disbursement of emergency funds for the procurement of vaccines and other essential materials to support the mass immunization exercise.
The Chairman’s swift intervention demonstrates his deep concern for public health and his commitment to the safety and well-being of all residents of Zaria Local Government Area.
The campaign, which commenced on Wednesday, is expected to last three days in the designated settlements. However, vaccination activities will continue seamlessly across all Primary Health Care Centres (PHCs) in the Local Government Area to ensure sustained protection and wider coverage.
Speaking through the Council’s Department of Health, the Chairman emphasized that the campaign aims not only to contain the spread of diphtheria but also to sensitize communities on the importance of immunization and hygiene practices.
He urged traditional and community leaders, parents, and youth groups to actively support the ongoing exercise by encouraging full participation in the vaccination drive.
Engr. Jaga further reiterated that health remains a top priority of his administration, noting that protecting the lives of children—the future of Zaria—is a collective responsibility.
He called on residents to remain vigilant, cooperate with health officials, and report any suspected cases promptly.
The ongoing revaccination campaign is expected to reach every targeted settlement across the affected wards in the coming days, ensuring that no child is left behind.
