—Commends LG Chairman, Emphasises Preventive Healthcare
Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has flagged off a free medical circumcision exercise in Danja Local Government Area, commending the Executive Chairman, Hon. Rabo Tambaya, for initiating what he described as a timely and impactful grassroots health intervention.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony at the Comprehensive Health Centre, Danja, the Governor said the programme reflects people-centred governance, where local leadership directly responds to the health needs of communities.
This was contained in a statement signed by the Governor chief press secretary, Ibrahim kaula Mohammad issued to newsmen.
“This initiative shows how governance can positively touch lives at the grassroots by improving child health and easing the financial burden on parents,” Governor Radda stated.
He stressed the importance of conducting circumcision in medical facilities under the supervision of trained health professionals, noting that this ensures hygiene, safety and proper post-procedure care.”Medical circumcision reduces the risk of infection and complications associated with unregulated traditional practices,” he added.
Governor Radda described preventive healthcare programmes as critical to strengthening primary healthcare delivery, particularly at the local government level.”Investing in the health of our children today reduces future health challenges and long-term healthcare costs,” he noted.
The Governor commended Hon. Rabo Tambaya for effectively utilising local government autonomy to deliver people-focused healthcare services, describing the initiative as worthy of emulation across the state.”This is a clear example of how local government autonomy can deliver real benefits to the people,” he said.
He also commended the health workers involved in the exercise for their professionalism and dedication, assuring them of continued government support.
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to preventive healthcare, Governor Radda said the health and wellbeing of citizens especially children remain a top priority.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Advisory Committee to the Executive Chairman of Danja Local Government and Chiroma Danja, Dr. Lawal Aminu Danja, said the programme was initiated to improve child health and strengthen grassroots healthcare delivery.
“This exercise is part of our deliberate efforts to protect the health of our children and bring quality medical services closer to the people, he stated.
Dr. Lawal disclosed that the exercise covers 100 children drawn from Jiba, Tandama and Danja wards, and is fully sponsored by the Executive Chairman, Hon. Rabo Tambaya.
He explained that adopting a medical approach was aimed at addressing health risks associated with traditional circumcision practices.”Conducting the exercise in a clinical setting guarantees safety, professional care and better health outcomes,” he noted.
Dr. Lawal added that the programme has become an annual initiative in Danja Local Government, sustained through the commitment of the local council and stakeholders.
He commended the Katsina State Government’s health reforms under Governor Radda, noting that Danja Local Government remains aligned with the state’s health agenda.
“We appreciate the Governor’s continued support, which has strengthened our health system and boosted the morale of our healthcare workers,” he concluded.
