Gombe Governor Attends Funeral Prayer, Donates N5 Million to Bereaved Families
Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, CON, has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic accident involving a heavy-duty Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) tanker at Lawanti Village in Akko Local Government Area, which claimed the lives of five persons and left several others injured after the truck rammed into them.
The deceased persons are Babayo Bello Konkeje (60 yrs); Ahmadu Adamu Konkeje (43 yrs); Yahaya M. Manu Konkeje(40 yrs); Haruna Abdu Shulto (45 yrs); and Yana Alhaji Jarami Dunumari (51 yrs).
Governor Inuwa Yahaya, who joined family members, community leaders and residents at the Janazah (funeral prayer) held at the Palace of the District Head of Lawanti, described the incident as a painful and devastating loss, not only to the affected families and Lawanti community, but to the entire Gombe State.
After the funeral prayer, Governor Inuwa Yahaya condoled with the bereaved families on behalf of himself, the Government and the good people of Gombe State.
“We are here today to share in the deep pain and sorrow of the Lawanti community over the tragic loss of five innocent lives in this unfortunate incident.
On behalf of myself, the Government and the good people of Gombe State, I extend our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families”, the Governor said.
The Governor also extended his condolences to the families of seven other members of the Lawanti community who recently lost their lives in a separate incident while travelling to Maiduguri in December, 2025, noting that the cumulative losses have deeply saddened the state government.
“This is not only a loss to Lawanti, but a loss to the entire state.
Our hearts also go out to the families of the seven members of this community who recently lost their lives while travelling to Maiduguri. We mourn with you and pray that Allah grants you the strength to bear these painful losses”, he added.
He prayed that Almighty Allah forgives the shortcomings of the deceased, grants them Aljannatul Firdaus, and gives their families and the community the fortitude to bear the immense losses.
The Governor commended the Lawanti community for their calm and restraint in the aftermath of the tragic incident, particularly for not taking the law into their hands.
This restraint, he noted, is a clear demonstration of discipline, peace and respect for the rule of law.
Governor Inuwa Yahaya pledged that the state government would take necessary measures to prevent a recurrence of such a tragic incident. As part of immediate support, Governor Inuwa Yahaya announced a compassionate donation of the sum of N5 million to the families of the 5 deceased persons to assist them cope with burial and related expenses at this difficult moment.
Responding on behalf of the bereaved families and the entire Lawanti community, the District Head of Lawanti, Alhaji Bello Hassan, expressed profound gratitude to the Governor for personally attending the Janazah, sharing in their grief, and for the financial support and assurances given, describing the Governor’s visit as a demonstration of compassionate and people-centred leadership.
