Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, CON, has expressed profound appreciation to his Yobe State counterpart, Mai Mala Buni, for the honour of naming the newly constructed ultra-modern market in Ngalda after him.

A statement signed by Ismaila Uba Mislli, DG Press Affairs, Government House Gombe said the governor made this known when he commissioned the new market located in Ngalda area of Fika Local Government in Yobe State, describing it as a landmark commercial hub that will boost trade, enhance cross-border economic activities and stimulate socio-economic growth across neighbouring communities.

Governor Inuwa Yahaya said he was deeply delighted and humbled by the gesture, noting that the honour reflects the strong bond of unity, mutual respect and shared vision between the governments and people of Gombe and Yobe States.“I am truly overwhelmed by this show of brotherhood and solidarity.

To have such a significant edifice named after me by my brother, Governor Mai Mala Buni, is a great honour I do not take lightly. Thank you for this honour, Your Excellency”, he said.

He commended Governor Buni’s purposeful leadership, describing him as a visionary leader committed to infrastructure development and economic revitalization.

He emphasized that the strategic location of the market would greatly benefit not only communities within Yobe State but also border communities in Nafada and Funakaye Local Government Areas of Gombe State, given their proximity to Ngalda, saying the facility will deepen commercial ties, facilitate agricultural produce exchange, and enhance livelihoods for traders and farmers across the two states.

“This market will serve as a major economic corridor between Yobe and Gombe.

Our people in Nafada and Funakaye will find this market accessible for buying and selling agricultural produce and other goods, thereby expanding economic frontiers and strengthening inter-state cooperation”, the Governor stated.

Governor Inuwa Yahaya also used the occasion to reiterate his appeal for urgent Federal Government intervention on the deplorable Gombe-Potiskum road, describing it as a critical economic artery linking Gombe with Yobe and Borno states.

He specifically called on the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Political and Other Matters, Alh. Ibrahim Kabir Masari, who accompanied him on the road journey from Gombe through Funakaye and Nafada to Ngalda, to relay the firsthand experience of the road’s dilapidated condition to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“We deliberately invited my brother, the SSA to the President to come to Gombe and travel with us by road to these communities so that he could see the true state of this very important highway.

We appeal to him to kindly brief Mr. President on the urgent need for intervention, as the condition of the road is affecting economic activities and posing serious risks to commuters”, he said.

While making the appeal, Governor Inuwa Yahaya commended President Tinubu for his continued support to the people of the North-East and for creating an enabling environment for state governments to execute impactful projects.

He noted that federal backing and collaborative governance have empowered governors in the region to undertake people-oriented initiatives that promote socio-economic development.

As part of contribution to support the relocation of traders from the old market to the new one, Governor Inuwa Yahaya announced a donation of 10 million Naira to be given to the leadership of the market to enable them facilitate the relocation and commencement of activities at the new market.
