Excellency the Executive Governor of Yobe State Dr Mai Mala Buni CON has today inaugurated a committee on Basic and secondary education in Yobe state.
The inaugural ceremony took place at the conference hall of Deputy Governor’s,Government House Damaturu.
Represented by his Deputy, Hon Idi Barde Gubana ( Wazirin Fune) who informed members that the present Administration accorded topmost priority to the education sector, considering that education is the bedrock for development in every society and therefore, must be adequately funded and supervised by the government.
It could be recalled that the state Governor had declared a state of emergency on education during his inaugural speech in 2019.
The declaration has yielded a positive impact and significant improvement in the education sector across the state
.The key positive impact and achievements includes, improved examination performance, infrastructure development, teacher recruitment and training, reduced out of school children and increased enrolment as well as scholarship programs.
According to the Governor, the decision was to consolidate on the solid foundation put in place by the previous administration of sen Ibrahim Gaidam .
In view of this, it has become expedient for the state government to set up a steering committee that will monitor, advise and report the progress being made in the sector so that the aims and objectives of the Government can be achieved appropriately.

The committee shall be guided by the following terms of reference;
(a.) Conduct a comprehensive assessment of the state of basic and secondary education across all the 17 local government areas.
(b.) Identify key challenges including access to ,equity, security- related disruptions and employment of security personnel
(c)Develop practical strategies to reduce out of school children, especially girls with disabilities, and those in hard-to- reach and insecurity-affected communities.
(d)Recommend community engagement, school re-enrolment, retention and transition Mechanism.
(e) Propose Mechanism for school security,psychosocial support, resilience, and emergency preparedness.
(f)Identify potential partnership with Federal Ministries departments and agencies, development partners, NGOs, CSOs,Communities, and private sector stakeholders.
