The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Education (FUE), Zaria, Prof. Yahaya Isa Bunkure, has hosted the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, PhD, GCON, at the 2026 North-West Badminton Championship held at the Dr. M. I. Maccido PHE Multipurpose Hall, FUE Zaria.
Speaking at the event, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen disclosed that the Federal University of Education, Zaria, would play a nurturing role in the management of the newly established Federal College of Education, Zaria, with the aim of laying a solid and sustainable foundation for the institution.
According to the Speaker, discussions had already been held with the Vice-Chancellor on the possibility of FUE Zaria providing institutional guidance and management support to the new College upon its completion.
“We have discussed with the Vice-Chancellor the possibility that this very important University will play a role in the management of that particular institution when completed,” he said.
Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen further revealed that the Federal College of Education, Zaria, would be among the beneficiaries of four proposed stadiums to be constructed in Zaria as part of his sports development initiatives.
He also announced plans to replicate the FUE Zaria Sports Complex—currently utilised by the Noble Badminton Club, Zaria—across all eight local government areas within Zone One of Kaduna State.
Reaffirming his commitment to sports infrastructure development in the ancient city, the Speaker disclosed plans to construct a world-class sports arena in Zaria.“We are building, within the four corners of Zaria, a sports arena which will be the best in the entire country,” he added.
At the climax of the championship, the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Education, Zaria, Prof. Yahaya Isa Bunkure, was presented with a Special Award in recognition of his outstanding support and contributions to the development of badminton in the North-West zone and Nigeria at large
