*Noble Badminton Club, Zaria Appoints VC as Patron

The Federal University of Education, Zaria, has reaffirmed its commitment to improving sports facilities and promoting sporting activities within the University community.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Yahaya Isa Bunkure, gave this assurance while receiving members of the Noble Badminton Club, Zaria, which holds its games and trainings at the University Sports Complex.

The delegation was led by the Club’s Chairman, Hon. Yusuf Balarabe Kubau, who explained that the visit was to congratulate the Vice-Chancellor on his appointment and to formally familiarize the Club with the University’s new leadership.

A former Chairman and long-standing member of the Club, Mal. Umar Iro, traced the history, growth, and achievements of the Noble Badminton Club, noting that the Club boasts commendable facilities and a vibrant membership, adding that the Club has continued to contribute to the development of badminton in the University, Zaria and beyond.

The delegation also briefed the Vice-Chancellor on the forthcoming Speaker’s Cup, a badminton competition to be organised in honour of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, who is the Grand Patron of the Club.

In line with its tradition, the Noble Badminton Club conferred the Vice-Chancellor with the position of Patron, explaining that the head of its host institution is customarily appointed to the role.Responding, Prof. Bunkure expressed appreciation to the leadership and members of the Club for the recognition, describing the honour as a privilege.

He noted that the University remains committed to strengthening sports facilities and activities for both staff and students.

He formally accepted the appointment as Patron, assured the Club of sustained collaboration, and encouraged it to create more opportunities for members of the University community to actively participate in badminton.

The meeting was attended by the Acting Registrar, Mal. Shehu Iya Sa’idu; the Acting Librarian, Mal. Tijjani Ahmed; and the Director of Sports of the University, Dr. Sama’ila Ubale Alhaji.

Other members of the Club’s delegation included the Vice Chairman, Bashir Shehu; the Public Relations Officer, Sawyerr B. Olakunle; and the Financial Secretary, Sanusi Salisu, among other officials.

In a vote of thanks, the Director of Sports, Dr. Sama’ila Ubale Alhaji, thanked the visitors for the camaraderie and expressed the University’s appreciation for the continued partnership.
