Fue Zaria: Deans Call for Welfare, Share Concerns on D.E Candidates, as VC Assures Welfare and Programme Expansion

The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Education, Zaria, Prof. Yahaya Isa Bunkure, has assured that his administration will work tirelessly to improve staff welfare, expand academic programmes, and strengthen teaching and learning facilities.

The assurance came when he received Deans of various Faculties in the University  who paid him a courtesy visit to congratulate and familiarize themselves with him as the new Vice-Chancellor, and to brief him on faculty activities.

Led by the Chairman, Committee of Deans, Dr. Ahmad Salihu Bello, Dean (School) of Languages, the Deans expressed their readiness to support the Vice-Chancellor in his new assignment. They reaffirmed their commitment to discipline in line with Civil Service Rules, which align with his stance on zero tolerance for indiscipline.

Speaking further, the Deans presented several issues affecting their faculties. They called for improved welfare of staff, provision of essential items for the smooth running of their offices, laboratory equipment, examination materials, and measures to address the shortage of applicants in some Faculties and Departments, among other matters.

The Deans offered prayers for a successful tenure, shared words of advice, and pledged their continuous contributions to the growth and development of the University. They also shared concerns regarding Direct Entry candidates and called on giving them greater consideration in the University’s admission process.

Other requests made by the Deans included, provision of stationeries, provision of laptops, installation of solar-powered systems, more office accommodations and review of the shifting system for non-academic staff.

Responding, Prof. Bunkure thanked the Deans for their goodwill and assured them that his administration would not relent in improving staff welfare.

He added that adequate facilities would be provided where necessary to ensure a conducive environment for teaching, learning, and effective service delivery.

The Vice-Chancellor also promised to facilitate the expansion of programmes already approved by the National Universities Commission (NUC).

On admissions, he acknowledged the growing calls from Direct Entry candidates and assured that more efforts would be made to ensure their consideration in subsequent admission exercises.

Prof. Bunkure further called for cooperation and harmonious working relationships, stressing that collective commitment was needed to drive the University to greater heights.
