The Executive Chairman of Zaria Local Government, Engr. Jamil Ahmad Muhammad (Jaga), has flagged off a major empowerment program facilitated by the Speaker, House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, GCON (Iyan Zazzau) a true leader whose vision for Zaria continues to touch countless lives.
The program, which targeted 6,000 beneficiaries across Zaria Federal Constituency, focused on promoting self-reliance, food security, and economic empowerment among women, youth, and persons with special needs.
Out of the total number, 3,000 women and persons with special needs received beans and ₦20,000 start-up capital, while another 3,000 men will receive 100kg of maize and millet palliatives a deliberate effort aimed at supporting vulnerable households and improving livelihoods across communities.
During the event, Engr. Jamil Jaga also announced additional empowerment programs scheduled to commence in the coming weeks, which include:
1. Distribution of food items and ₦100,000–₦200,000 cash grants to 1,500 women and youth (Phase 1), with Phase 2 to follow immediately. 2. Shoe-making skills acquisition program, where each participant will receive empowerment materials worth over ₦1,000,000 to start their own business. 3. Distribution of industrial sewing machines to over 1,500 tailors to boost local fashion production. 4. Distribution of solar-powered irrigation machines (each with two 600-watt panels) to 4,000 dry-season farmers to enhance irrigation and agricultural productivity. 5. Distribution of grinding machines to over 1,500 women to support small-scale businesses and income generation. 6. Distribution of deep freezers to over 1,500 women to strengthen their entrepreneurial ventures. 7. Distribution of agricultural implements including tractors, combined threshers, haulage tricycles, and knapsack sprayers to over 2,000 farmers to improve mechanized farming and efficiency.
