……Charges troops to remain steadfast in the defence of peace, Unity and national sovereignty

The Chief Of Army Staff (COAS) Lt Gen Waidi Shaibu NAM has charged the troops of 2 Division Forward Operations Base to remain steadfast in the defence of peace, unity and national sovereignty.

A statement signed by Captain Maureen Ogbuka acting deputy director army public relations HQ 2 division Nigerian army said the COAS who was represented by the Commander Corps of Supply and Transport (CCST) Maj Gen Nansak Shagaya gave the charge during the Special Eid El Fitr Sallah luncheon with troops of 2 Division Forward Operation Base, Igbeti, Olorunsogo Local Government Area of Oyo State on 20 March 2026.

In his remarks, the Special Guest of Honour, Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr Oluseyi Makinde appreciated the COAS for celebrating the Eid el Fitr Sallah luncheon with frontline troops.

He commended the troops of 2 Division for their sacrifices, fighting spirit and determination in reducing the incessant cases of kidnapping, banditry and other crimes/anomalies within the Division’s Area of Responsibility and beyond.

He commended the COAS for ensuring that welfare of troops is always looked after.

He also commended the GOC 2 Division for his sustained efforts in maintaining peace and security within the Division’s Area of Responsibility.

While delivering his goodwill Message, the COAS commended the troops for successful completion of the Ramadan fasting and noted that the Sallah celebration marks the end of a period of devotion, sacrifice, self-discipline and deep spiritual reflection that resonate profoundly with the ethos and professional calling of the soldier.

In his words he said, “We also remember with pride and gratitude, our troops currently deployed across various theatres of operation in difficult and often demanding environments, safeguarding our territorial integrity and protecting the lives of our citizens, even as we celebrate with our families and loved ones”

The COAS further said that strength of any army lies not only in its equipment or operational capability, but in the wellbeing, morale and confidence of its personnel.

He then reassured that the welfare of every officer and soldier remains a central pillar of his leadership and Command Philosophy.

He therefore expressed his profound gratitude to the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, for his unwavering support, steadfast leadership and continued commitment to the welfare, operational effectiveness and institutional development of the Armed Forces.

Earlier in his welcome remarks, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 2 Division Nigerian Army, Maj Gen Chinedu Nnebeife thanked God Almighty for the successful conclusion of the Holy Month of Ramadan.

He retreated that event is firmly rooted on Command Philosophy of the COAS which is: “*To Transform the Nigerian Army into a Professional, Adaptable, Combat Ready and Resilient Force Capable of Decisively Discharging its Constitutional Responsibilities within a Joint and Multi-Agency Environment.*”

He emphasized on “Soldier First” concept, which emphasizes boosting soldiers morale and ensuring robust administration for enhanced operational effectiveness.

Maj Gen Nnebeife noted that the luncheon therefore, is not merely a celebration but a deliberate leadership gesture to recognize gallantry, reinforce cohesion, and consolidate operational gains.

He further expressed that by bringing the feast of Sallah luncheon to the frontline in Igbeti, the COAS is affirming that the toils of troops are seen, sacrifices are valued, and their welfare is the Army’s highest priority.

He then commended the troops of 2 Division for dominating the battle-space, neutralizing threats of banditry and kidnapping, demonstrating exceptional courage and resilience across this Theatre of Operations.

The GOC expressed appreciation to the COAS for his unwavering support and in addressing the welfare of troops no matter where they are deployed.

He also thanked the Governor of Oyo State for his continous support to 2 Division and for finding time to grace the event.
