DG NYSC APPLAUDS 6 BRIGADE NA FOR SUSTAINED SECURITY SUPPORT IN TARABA

The Director-General (DG) National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olakunle Oluseyi Nafiu, on 20 February 2026, commended the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army (NA)/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) for its continuous support to the activities and operations of the NYSC in Taraba State.

A statement signed by Lieutenant Umar Muhammad Acting Assistant director Army public relations,6 Brigade Nigerian Army said Brigadier General Nafiu gave the commendation during a courtesy visit to the Commander, 6 Brigade NA/Sector 3 (OPWS), Brigadier General Chukwuemeka Michael Akaliro, at the Headquarters 6 Brigade NA in Jalingo.

In his remarks, the DG NYSC congratulated the Brigade Commander on his recent appointment and expressed appreciation for the warm reception accorded to him and members of his entourage.

He thanked the Brigade Commander for the sustained support and services rendered to the NYSC over the years.

He noted that the discipline and dedication of the Brigade’s officers and soldiers have contributed significantly to nurturing well-disciplined and exemplary Corps Members in Taraba State.

“I must commend and congratulate your officers for the fantastic job the Brigade has been doing, which has brought positive changes to the security dynamics in Taraba State under your leadership,” the DG stated.

He described Brigadier General Akaliro as a seasoned and experienced senior officer and expressed confidence that his vast experience and leadership qualities would continue to strengthen the Brigade’s effectiveness.

The DG further lauded the Brigade for providing the necessary security support to the NYSC Scheme, noting that the peaceful and enabling environment enjoyed by Corps Members in Taraba State is a testament to the purposeful leadership of the Brigade Commander.

In his response, Brigadier General Akaliro thanked the DG for recognizing him as one of the critical stakeholders of the NYSC in Taraba State, adding that it was an honour to host the DG at the Headquarters 6 Brigade NA.

He described the DG as a highly disciplined senior officer whose continuous drive for excellence has defined his military career, expressing confidence that the NYSC remains in capable hands under his leadership.

“The NYSC remains a veritable tool which, as a nation, we must continue to uphold. It provides the necessary exposure for our youths to understand the cultural heritage and diversity of our country,” he stated.

He also described the officials and staff of the NYSC in Taraba State as dedicated and hardworking, and appealed to the Director-General to consider renovating the NYSC Secretariat in the state.

Highlights of the visit included the inspection of the quarter guard, signing of the visitors’ book by the DG presentation of souvenirs, and group photographs.
