The Kano State government has given an insight into the planned construction of Mega Housing city, Gida Gida Mega City aimed at providing affordable housing accommodation to the residents of the state.
The state commissioner ministry of Housing Architect Ibrahim Yakubu Adamu said the project is aimed at decongesting Kano Metropolis and Expand the State.
The Commissioner who address Journalists on the issue in Kano said Gida-Gida Mega city was conceptualized to cater for massive influx of people into Kano which puts a lot of pressure on all public infrastructure and over stretching them.
He explained that the Gida-Gida Mega City Mass Housing Project is Part of Government efforts to address the growing housing deficit arising from rapid Population growth and Urbanization.
According to him,the Project Site is Strategically located within the State’s Urban Expansion Corridor and would support orderly Urban development, stimulate economic activities and improve access to decent Housing.
He maintained that the Gida-Gida Mega City is meant to be constructed in a modern setting where each house will be constructed with a complete fence and gate as well as the entire city.
The City is approximately 178 hectares – translating to 5,980m length of fence (6km) will be fenced throughout with Gate house at the two major exit gates.
He announced that hence, the Propose development apart from the Four Hundred and Eighty (480) number different prototype houses which comprises:a.
One Hundred and Thirty (130) number Three (3) Bedroom Semi Detached Duplexesb.
One Hundred and Fifty (150) number Four (4) Bedroom Terracesc.
One Hundred (100) number Four (4) Bedroom Duplex
d. One Hundred (100) number Five (5) Bedroom Duplex
The city also includes the following Infrastructural and Public facilities, which were also included in the cost of the project.
The facilities are very necessary for the city to be habitable, with a view to curtailing past experience on the 3cities of Kwankwasiyya, Amana and Bandirawo:
1. External Civil works that include Roads, drainages, pedestrian walkway
2. Electrical works that include street light, Connection to main electrical source, transformers etc.
3. Mechanical Works that include pipe borne water, sewage system, septic tanks etc
4. Construction of Juma’at Mosque & Eid ground
5. Construction of standard Islamiyya School
6. Construction standard Primary and Secondary Schools
7. Construction of Hospital
8. Provision of Garden/parks
9. Construction of Indoor and External Sporting facilities/recreation
10. Construction of refuse dumping ground
11. Construction of Cemetery
12. Construction of Gas Refilling Plant
13. Construction of ultra-modern shopping arcade
14. Construction of Fire Service15. Construction of Police Station
