CHIEF OF TRAINING ARMY URGES COMMANDING OFFICERS TO RENEW COMMITMENT TO PROFESSIONAL EXCELLENCE

…As First COs’ Workshop 2026 comes to a closeThe Chief of Training (Army), Major General Valentine Okoro has urged Commanding Officers to return to their respective formations and units with renewed commitment to professional excellence.

He gave this charge while addressing participants at the closing ceremony of the five-day event of the First Commanding Officers’ Workshop 2026 held at the Army War College Nigeria, WU Bassey Barracks in Abuja.

Giving his Address, Maj Gen Okoro noted that the workshop provided a valuable platform for professional reflection, experience sharing and intellectual engagement on critical aspects of command.

He explained that the lectures delivered during the workshop were carefully selected to address the contemporary responsibilities and challenges confronting Commanding Officers in the operational environment.

According to him, perspectives shared on command and leadership within Operation HADIN KAI provided useful operational insights on the realities of leading troops in complex joint environments, while sessions on effective administration of troops in the field and maintenance of equipment highlighted the central role of the Commanding Officers in sustaining combat effectiveness.

In his remarks, the Commander Army Headquarters (AHQ) Garrison congratulated the participants for successfully completing the workshop and described Commanding Officers as one of the most important commands in the Nigerian Army due to their direct contact with troops under command.

He further emphasised that the powers entrusted to Commanding Officers must be exercised correctly and responsibly, particularly in matters relating to trials and discipline, while urging them to ensure objectivity and accuracy when reporting on officers in Performance Evaluation Reports.

Highlights of the event included syndicates presentation, interactive sessions, presentations of certificates as well as souvenirs
