Earlier today, I led a team of professional engineers, expatriates and contractors on an onsite inspection tour of completed and ongoing road projects across Zaria.
During the inspection, we accessed some of the roads where poor-quality work had been recorded in the past. In response, the main contractor has already taken decisive action by dismissing all sub-contractors responsible for poor quality of work, deploying new set of engineers, equipment, and promising to correct every error within two months. The sites covered in today’s visit included Aba Bridge Construction Site, Wuciciri Road, Nagoyi, Agoro bridge, Kofar Doka, and Barewa Road.
First and foremost, I want to appreciate the good people of Zaria for their concern, and I sincerely apologize for all the errors recorded. I understand your pains and frustrations because we all want roads that will stand the test of time. Roads that will last for the next 50 years for our children and grandchildren to use with pride. Anything short of that is unacceptable.
It is also important to clarify that road projects are not executed by the Speaker or House of Reps members. The execution lies with the relevant ministries and agencies, who award contracts and supervise their implementation. What our boss, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, GCON, does is to facilitate and lobby for these projects to be included in the national budget, ensuring development comes back home to Zaria.
Unfortunately, when an agency or contractor fails to deliver, it wrongly reflects on the Speaker and his team. With that Mr Speaker has made it categorically clear to both the supervising agencies and the contractors that he must see value for every naira appropriated for his projects. Anything less will not be accepted. For this reason, we will intensify monitoring and rigorous supervision, holding everyone accountable, and keeping the doors open for amendments until the projects meet the right and acceptable standards.
The good news is that many new road projects are about to commence across Zaria this year, and I assure you they will meet the highest quality standards. This is in line with the vision of Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, GCON, to transform our constituency with lasting infrastructure. Together, let us stay united and support this mission because Zaria deserves only the very best.
Later in the day, I paid a condolence visit to the family of late Muhammad Jamilu Baba Agare in Unguwar Malamai, Gyallesu where i sympathized with the bereaved family and prayed for Allah’s mercy upon his soul. I also attended the wedding ceremony of Alhaji Aminu RP to the daughter of our friend Alh Sito at Tudun-Wada, Layi Na Matazu, where I joined friends and well-wishers to celebrate with the families.
Back at the Council Secretariat, I received on courtesy visit the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Education, Kano, Prof. Abdullahi Tukur Kadage, who came to appreciate my contribution in facilitating his appointment through the Speaker.
In the evening, I commissioned the Coalition APC Youths Office in Tukur-Tukur, Zaria, where I reaffirmed my administration’s strong commitment to youth inclusion, empowerment, and active participation in governance and political developments.
