
The Honourable Commissioner for Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, Engr. Lawan Abba Wakilbe, continued his schools supervision tour of Southern Borno with a visit to Hawul Local Government Area.The day began with an inspection of Government Secondary School (GSS) Marama, Marama Central Primary School, and Marama Junior Day School, where the Commissioner assessed classroom conditions, teaching activities, and students’ participation.
He then proceeded to Government Day Secondary School (GDSS) Sakwa for a similar assessment of facilities, infrastructure, and the overall learning environment.
The Commissioner later visited Government Girls Secondary School (GGSS) Shaffa to evaluate the restoration of its boarding facilities following years of disruption caused by the insurgency.
He commended the resilience of teachers and students and encouraged surrounding communities to take advantage of the renewed opportunities for quality education in the area.
The visit also included Shaffa Primary School, Shaffa Junior Day School, and several private schools, where he reviewed compliance with educational standards and community engagement.
The day’s tour concluded in Kwajjafa, where the Commissioner inspected Government Day Secondary School (GDSS) Kwajjafa, Kwajjafa Primary School, and Kwajjafa Junior Day School, focusing on infrastructure and ongoing teaching and learning activities.
At all schools visited, the Honourable Commissioner distributed learning materials, including books and dignity kits, to students. The items were donated by UNICEF, the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), the North East Development Commission (NEDC), and the Borno State Government.
The Commissioner rounded off the day’s activities with a meeting at the Local Education Authority (LEA) Secretariat, Azare, where he addressed staff and charged them to strengthen efforts toward improving learning outcomes, boosting enrolment, and enhancing retention in public schools.
He was accompanied by Mama Patience Malgwi, Member III, Borno State Senior Secondary Education Board; the Zonal Director of Education, Biu Zone, Usman Audu; and the Education Secretary of Hawul, Samuel Abwari Malgwi. The Commissioner was warmly received by principals, teachers, and students at all the schools visited
