The Zamfara State Government has mourned the tragic killing of four people who were burnt to death by bandits in their homes at Gwargwabe village, Nahuce District, in Bungudu Emirate.
Governor Dr. Dauda Lawal, represented by his Deputy, Mani Malam Mummuni, attended the funeral prayers and burial of the victims.
A statement signed by Shehu Adamu Gusau Press secretary office of the deputy governor said he also pledged the government’s continued commitment to taking all necessary steps to end banditry in Zamfara State.
The Deputy Governor urged residents to accept the incident as an act of destiny while assuring them that the government is investigating the delay in the arrival of security operatives after the attack was reported.
The Matawallen Bukkuyum also announced the establishment of a military base in Gwargwabe to curb further attacks and called on the community to support security agencies with cooperation and unity.
On behalf of the Zamfara State Government, he prayed for Allah’s forgiveness for the deceased, asked for patience and strength for their families, and announced relief support of 100 bags of grains and ten million naira to ease the suffering of the affected people.
The Deputy Governor was accompanied by the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Bilyamin Ismail Moriki, the Chairman of Bungudu Local Government, Alh Nura NU, and other government officials.
The attack occurred on Thursday evening shortly before Maghrib prayers, when armed bandits stormed the village, set houses and food stores ablaze, and killed four people — three men and one woman — along with several livestock.
According to the district head, Kekun Nahuce, Alhaji Sulaiman Marafa, the attack was carried out because the villagers refused to pay illegal levies to the bandits, choosing instead to protect their community.
This latest incident comes just two days after another attack on the same village, during which three people were killed, bringing the total number of deaths in the area to seven.
