In Kaduna State, one of the most impactful initiatives under the leadership of the Chairman, Zaria Local Government Council, Engr. Jamil Ahmad Muhammad Jaga, was showcased today through the SNEEM Project — a transformative program designed to empower hundreds of women and youth farmers within the Vitamin A Maize Value Chain.

The initiative, aimed at boosting nutrition and creating sustainable livelihoods, is expected to generate over 2,000 new jobs, thereby strengthening food security and driving economic growth across Zaria Local Government Area.

A major highlight of the project is its focus on addressing Vitamin A deficiency, a critical public health issue affecting about 30% of children under five years, nearly 20% of pregnant women, and 13% of nursing mothers.

The deficiency weakens immunity, impairs vision, and in severe cases, may lead to blindness or even death.

The Vitamin A-fortified maize promoted through the SNEEM Project will serve as an effective and sustainable solution to combat Vitamin A deficiency, improving the nutritional well-being of families across the nation .

The project is being implemented in partnership with the SNEEM Consortium, which includes reputable organizations such as SuperTech Foods, with support from the European Union (EU) and other international development partners.

At the end of the one-day SNEEM Vitamin A Maize Sensitization Program, held at the Zaria Local Government Secretariat Chamber, participants were assured that, after proper registration with the project, successful farmers from Zaria Local Government would benefit from grants, laptops, and essential farm inputs to enhance their productivity and participation in the value chain.

A statement signed by the Chief press secretary office of the chairman, Ishaq Galadima said participants and facilitators of the SNEEM Project commended Chairman Jaga for his visionary leadership, unwavering support, and the smooth and beneficial collaboration that ensured the success of the sensitization program.
