…….call for public cooperation on drainage management.
The Executive Chairman of Zaria Local Government Council, Engr. Jamil Ahmad Muhammad Jaga, has visited the Tudun Jukun area of Zaria following the tragic loss of two young lives to the recent flood caused by heavy downpour.
The Chairman personally condoled with the families of the late Fatima Sani Dan Marke, an 18-year-old student of SBRS Funtua, and Yusuf Surajo (popularly known as Abba), whose bodies were recovered near the Isan Nabawa Primary School bridge.
A statement signed by the special adviser/ chief press secretary to the chairman Zaria local government Ishaq Galadima said the chairman prayed to Allah to forgive their shortcomings, grant them Jannatul Firdaus, and comfort their grieving families.
Engr. Jaga also visited Malam Daddy at Magume, who sustained injuries while conveying Fatima on his motorcycle during the incident, wishing him a speedy recovery and strength in this difficult time. He further offered prayers for little Haneefa of the Magume community, who is still missing, asking Almighty Allah to protect her and reunite her safely with her loved ones.
The Chairman emphasized the need for vigilance during the rainy season, appealing to parents and guardians to keep children indoors during and immediately after rainfall, as floodwaters often conceal open drains and other hazards.
In addition, he reiterated his administration’s commitment to strengthening community awareness, drainage management, and disaster response mechanisms to minimize the risks of future occurrences.
Engr. Jaga also used the occasion to call on the general public to desist from indiscriminately dumping refuse into drainage systems across Zaria communities, stressing that blocked waterways significantly worsen flooding and endanger lives. He urged residents to embrace proper waste disposal practices as a shared responsibility for a safer and healthier environment.
Later, the Chairman paid condolence visits at Tukur-Tukur, Gidan Alhaji Sule Waziri, over the death of Malama Talatu Suleiman, and to the family of the late Malam Balan Dayi, praying for Allah’s mercy upon their souls and strength for their families.
The Chairman concluded with prayers for Allah’s protection over the people of Zaria and the continued peace and safety of the communities.
