
The Corps Marshal’s Special Intelligence Squad of the Federal Road Safety Corps FRSC on Saturday, along the Gwagwalada–Abaji Highway, arrested a patrol team comprising Six personnel including the driver for extorting money from motorists.
The sum of thirty-nine thousand, six hundred naira was recovered from them.
According to the Corps Marshal Special Squad leader, the arrested team were the same operatives released on Friday, October 31, from the FRSC Headquarters in Abuja after being previously arrested for similar infractions last month.
The Head of the Special Squad further revealed that another patrol team from the Abaji Unit Command was also apprehended for using a Point of Sale POS operator to collect money from motorists
Reacting to the ugly incident, the FRSC Corps Marshal, Mallam Shehu Mohammed, said that in line with the Corps regulations, the affected personnel would be dismissed from service after completion of necessary investigation .
According to him, the FRSC will not fold its arms while corrupt officers tarnish the image of the Corps.Mallam Shehu Mohammed assured that the Corps would continue to deploy the needed technology to monitor the activities of FRSC personnel to maintain its integrity.
According to him, the Corps is deploying drones where necessary to track down the activities of personnel.
The FRSC boss, however, appealed to members of the public to desist from offering bribes to FRSC officers and to promptly report any personnel who demand money from road users.
