Islamic clerics have been urged to learn from the history, methodology, and teaching techniques of Sheikh Abdullahi Gwandu in promoting Islamic knowledge and values.

A lecturer from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Professor Ahmed Bello Dogarawa, gave the advice while delivering a lecture at the Sheikh Usman Bin Fodiyo Islamic Centre, Zaria.

The lecture was part of the Centre’s second annual series, focusing on “The Contributions, Writings, and Methodology of Sheikh Abdullahi Gwandu in the Promotion of Islamic Knowledge Across the World.

”While delivering a lecture Professor Dogarawa highlighted that the purpose of the lecture was to shed more light on the various methods of seeking Islamic knowledge, both in the past and present, and to emphasize the roles played by different Islamic scholars, or Ulamah, in advancing education and moral discipline.

Professor Dogarawa explained that the process of seeking Islamic knowledge is broad and must be approached gradually—from foundational texts to advanced scholarly works. He lamented that this step-by-step approach is often neglected in modern times.

The professor also expressed concern over the declining respect for Islamic clerics among some religious organizations, noting that certain preachers conduct sermons without proper etiquette and fail to show respect to senior scholars.

He further outlined the numerous contributions and achievements of Sheikh Abdullahi Gwandu, describing him as a great scholar who played a significant role in the propagation of Islamic knowledge, the promotion of moral values, and the socio-economic development of the Muslim community.

The lecture attracted many Islamic clerics, scholars, members of the Zazzau Emirate Council, and Islamic students from various institutions.
