
The Senate has cleared and confirmed the appointment of the recently nominated service chiefs as sent in by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Their clearance and confirmation follows a rigorous screening exercise held at the red chamber of the national assembly this Wednesday.
Reports said the screening exercise conducted both openly in the hallowed chamber of the Senate and in a closed session witnessed a series of questions by the Senators to the Service Chiefs on their new approaches to be deployed towards ending the insecurity in the country.
After the close-door screening, the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio explained that the Senators were satisfied with the interactions they had and resolved to confirm the nominees.
Earlier, in his response to questions from the law makers, the Chief of Army Staff, Maj-Gen Waidi Shuaibu said funding was still a challenge but gave an assurance of his determination to recruit more personnel based on available resources and reinvigorate the army to engage the terrorists and bandits threatening the lives of the citizens.
On his part, the Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshall Sunday Aneke while reacting to the question on rumors that the Air force Super Tucano jets were no longer operational, AVM Aneke dismissed the claim and assured the President of the Senate and other law makers that the Nigerian Air Force pilots are actively being engaged in dislodging the criminal elements.
The other nominees confirmed along with the Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Air Staff were the Chief of Defense Staff, Lit-General Olufemi Oluyede who was the immediate past Chief of Army Staff and the Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Idi Abbas who all pledged to work with all the sister security agencies and all other stakeholders towards eliminating the criminal elements and bringing to an end the insecurity in the country.
