Zamfara State Commissioner of Health Dr. Nafisa Muhammad Maradun has issued a stern warning to doctors at General Hospital, Gusau, after discovering their absence during another unscheduled visit.

A statement by the public relations officer of the ministry Suleiman Isa said Dr Nafisa Maradun, who paid a surprise visit to the hospital today, said she was alarmed to find that no doctors were on duty, a repeat of a previous inspection.

She described the situation as unacceptable, warning that any doctor unwilling to comply with professional and government regulations should resign rather than jeopardize the state’s health system.

“If they can’t comply, they should quit, or face the consequences from the state government,” she said.

The Commissioner added that the state government would not hesitate to take disciplinary action against erring health workers, stressing that the welfare of patients remains the top priority.
