The Zamfara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has described Governor Dauda Lawal’s recent comments on knowing the movements of bandits as an admission of failure by his administration to protect the lives and property of citizens.
In a statement issued by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Yusuf Idris Gusau, the APC said the governor should stop trading blames and focus on fulfilling his campaign promise of ending banditry within two months of assuming office.
The party laments the governor’s continuous claims of knowing the movements of every bandits kingpin in Zamfara but refusing to share intelligence or act decisively against them.
It recalled that, during a recent interview at Government House, the governor stated that he knows all the bandit camps in Zamfara forests and monitors their activities.
The APC, however, faulted the Governor for allegedly failing to take proactive steps despite having established and armed the state’s with Community Protection Guard.
According to the statement, as the chief security officer of Zamfara state, he has the power to deploy the Community Protection Guard to flush out the criminals, but playing politics by shifting responsibility to the federal government.
The APC further accused Governor Lawal of misleading the public by boasting about distributing 150 vehicles to security agencies, insisting that, the vehicles were handed over without provisions for fueling and maintenance.
“It compared this to the record of former governor Bello Matawalle, who the party said distributed 200 fully equipped operational vehicles with allowances to support logistics during his first 100 days in office”
The APC also alleged that, the governor has failed to engage critical security stakeholders or convene regular meetings to strengthen collaboration against banditry.
“It is disturbing that the governor openly admitted he can track the bandits with his mobile phone, yet he does nothing while innocent people are being massacred daily. This is inhuman unless he is a bloodthirsty politician,” Gusau alleged.
The party also faulted the governor for recently claiming he once alerted security agencies about an attack in Shinkafi Local Government but they failed to act.
It argued that, if the incident truly happened, the governor should have informed citizens at the time instead of waiting until he was being criticised for failing to deliver on his campaign promises.
The APC insisting that, Governor Lawal has failed the people of Zamfara and must now demonstrate leadership by taking concrete action against banditry rather than resorting to what it called media propaganda.
