Zuru town and Kebbi State in general has been thrown into mourning following the death of the Emir of Zuru, Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Sani Sami (retd.), who passed away on Saturday night at the age of 81.
The State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Garba Umar-Dutsinmari,who confirmed the monarch’s death in a statement issued in Birnin Kebbi. said the Emir died in a London hospital after a brief illness.
He is survived by four wives and seven children.
Meanwhile prominent personalities in and outside the state have started sending condolences over the demise of the late Emir.
In one of such messages, the Kebbi State Government described the late Emir as a revered traditional ruler and a respected leader whose legacies in promoting peace and development in the Zuru Emirate and Kebbi State will never be forgotten.
The statement said the state government extends its heartfelt condolences to the immediate family of the late Emir, the Zuru Emirate Council, the people of Zuru, and the entire people of Kebbi State. May Almighty Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him Aljannatul Firdaus,
In a related development,Senator Bala Ibni Na’Allah Senator has expressed deep sorrow and extended heartfelt condolences over the passing of His Royal Highness, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Sani Sami (Gomo II), the Emir of Zuru, who died in the early hours of Sunday at about 4:15am in London, where he was receiving medical treatment.
He described the late Emir as a noble leader who distinguished himself in service to the people of Zuru Emirate and Kebbi State at large. He noted that the loss is not only to the Zuru Emirate but also to the entire nation.
This is contained in a statement signed by his media aide Garba Mohammed Danjarida made available to newsmen.
In his condolence message, the Senator prayed to Almighty Allah to forgive the late Emir, grant him eternal rest, and give his family, the people of Zuru Emirate, and Kebbi State the fortitude to bear this great loss.
Details of his burial arrangements will be announced in due course.
