1 DIVISION NIGERIAN ARMY COMMENCES 2026 OPERATIONS PLANNING CADRE

In a strategic move to sharpen operational planning and bolster inter-agency collaboration, Headquarters 1 Division Nigerian Army (NA) has launched its 5-day Operations Planning Cadre for 2026.

A statement signed by Lieutenant Colonel Ajemasu Yake Jingina Acting Deputy’ Director Army Public Relations 1 division Nigerian army/ sector 1 operation fansar yamma said the programme, which kicked off on 23 March 2026 at the Stallion Auditorium, brings together officers from the NA, sister services, and various security and paramilitary agencies within the Division’s Area of Responsibility.

Themed “Advancing Inter-Agency Relationship for Effective Counter-Terrorism and Counter-Insurgency Operations: Challenges and Way Forward,” the cadre aims to equip participants with the essential doctrinal frameworks for effective joint and single-service operational planning.

In his opening remarks, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 1 Division and Commander Sector 1, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Major General Abubakar Sadique Muhammad Wase, characterized the current security landscape as fluid, complex, and demanding.

He highlighted that the North West geopolitical zone remains a flashpoint for multiple security threats, particularly within ungoverned spaces that serve as sanctuaries for violent non-state actors.

The GOC emphasized that these evolving challenges demand more than just physical strength; they require the intellectual capacity to plan, adapt, and deliver decisive results. “Effective planning is the critical link that translates a commander’s intent into actionable success on the ground,” he stated.

Underscoring the Chief of Army Staff’s (COAS) Command Philosophy, Major General Wase stressed the vital role of inter-agency synergy.

He noted that participants would work closely with partners from the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC). Mastering the ability to navigate the roles, limitations, and strengths of each partner agency is a core objective of the training.

Major General Wase also expressed his gratitude to the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, for his visionary leadership.

He reiterated the COAS’s mission: “To transform the Nigerian Army into a more professional, adaptable, and resilient force capable of decisively discharging its constitutional responsibilities within a joint and multi-agency environment.

“The opening ceremony was attended by a distinguished cohort of formation commanders, staff officers, and heads of various security and paramilitary agencies.

Highpoints of the day included expert lectures, a performance by the Army Band, the presentation of souvenirs, and group photographs.
