The Gombe State Police Command wishes to inform the general public that its operatives have successfully rescued a cleric who was unlawfully confined by a group of youths in Birin Fulani community, Nafada Local Government Area of the State.
A statement signed by the command public relations officer DSP Buhari Abdullahi on behalf of the state commissioner of police said On 15/03/2026 at about 0300hrs, the Command received a report of disturbance of public peace in Birin Fulani, Nafada LGA.
Acting swiftly on the information, the Divisional Police Officer and team immediately mobilized to the scene to restore peace.
Upon arrival, it was discovered that one Abubakar Mahmoud Puma “M” 58years from Akko Local Government Area of Gombe State, was locked in a house by a group of aggrieved Darika Sect youths in the community on the allegations of using abusive and derogatory words on their leaders.
The cleric was reportedly posted to Birin Fulani to conduct 2026 Ramadan Tafsir by JIBWIS National Headquarters,Jos.
The Divisional Police Officer promptly engaged the agitated youths in dialogue. Following the intervention, the youths cooperated and the cleric was safely rescued unhurt, no life was lost and normalcy has since been restored in the area.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Ahmed Chuso, mnips, fwc, mspsp, psc (+), has ordered a discreet investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident to ascertain the remote and immediate causes of the action taken by the youths and ensure that anyone found culpable is dealt with in accordance with the law.
The Command also cautions members of the public to desist from posting or circulating fake news and unverified information on social media, as such actions are capable of creating unnecessary tension and misleading the public.
The Command wishes to reassure residents of Birin Fulani and the entire people of Gombe State that the situation is fully under control.
Members of the public are advised to always channel their grievances through lawful means rather than resorting to actions capable of disturbing public peace.
