The Commandant, Air War College (AWC), Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Gambo Mbaka, on 3 March 2026, stated that Nigeria’s daily oil production stands as clear testimony to the sustained efforts of the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 6 Division, Nigerian Army (NA), Major General Emmanuel Eric Emekah, and troops under command in protecting the nation’s critical infrastructure.
A statement signed by Lieutenant Colonel Danjuma Jonah Danjuma Acting Deputy Director Army Public Relations,6 Division Army public relations said AVM Mbaka made this known when he led 54 participants of AWC Course 12/26 on a study tour to Headquarters 6 Division, NA, Port Harcourt.
He commended the GOC and his troops for their resilience and commitment in safeguarding critical oil and gas infrastructure in the Niger Delta Region (NDR). He further maintained that the AWC Course 12/26 was inaugurated on 22 January 2026.
The course, he said, incorporated operational study tours into its academic programme to expose the participants to real-time operations and contemporary security challenges confronting the nation.
He described the institution as one of the highest military training institutions in the Armed Forces of Nigeria, mandated to develop senior Air Force officers for the effective deployment of air power at the operational level.
Furthermore, he restated the mission of the College, which is to build qualitative manpower in the field of air power for the effective conduct of air operations.
As part of the course activities, participants will visit operational theatres in the North East and North West to interact with troops, interrogate operational challenges, and proffer workable solutions.
Earlier, the GOC 6 Division, Major General Emekah, who was represented by the Chief of Staff, Headquarters 6 Division, Brigadier General Emmanuel Adamu, welcomed the Commandant and his team.
He reiterated that the Division operates under the mandate of Operation DELTA SAFE, as the Land Component in the NDR.He highlighted that the region is confronted with illegal activities such as oil bunkering, kidnapping, pipeline vandalism, and other criminalities.
Despite these challenges, he stated that the Division has recorded tremendous successes, including the destruction of over 4.5 million litres of illegally refined petroleum products and several illegal bunkering sites.
The GOC commended the Commandant and his team for the choice of Port Harcourt for their study tour and reassured them of necessary support during their tour.
