In a decisive move to strengthen unit-level leadership and operational effectiveness, the Army Headquarters Garrison on 3 March 2026 hosted the First Commanding Officers’ Workshop 2026 at the Army War College Nigeria, WU Bassey Barracks, Abuja.
A statement signed by Lieutenant Colonel Bashir Mohammed Jajira, Acting Deputy Director Army Public Relations,Army Headquarters Garrison Command said declaring the workshop open, the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, represented by Major General Olusegun Abai, charged Commanding Officers to take full ownership of combat readiness within their formations.
He emphasized that effective tactical command rests on professionalism, discipline, sound judgment, and the ability to translate operational directives into measurable results on the ground.
Aligning his remarks with the theme, “Enhancing Tactical Level Leadership in a Joint and Multi-Agency Environment,” the COAS reiterated his command philosophy of transforming the Nigerian Army into a professional, adaptable, combat-ready, and resilient force capable of decisively discharging its constitutional responsibilities within a joint and Multi-agency environment.
He urged participants to entrench regimentation, mentor junior leaders, conduct realistic training, and maintain high standards of accountability and troop welfare.
In his remarks, the Chief of Training (Army), Major General Valentine Okoro, described the workshop as part of a structured effort to reinforce training excellence and strengthen operational standards across formations.
He encouraged participants to leverage the platform to refine retraining methods, improve reporting accuracy, and enhance coordination with sister services and other security agencies.
Earlier, the Commander Army Headquarters Garrison, Major General Maxwell Dangana, noted that Nigeria’s evolving security landscape demands adaptive and mission-focused tactical leadership.
He urged Commanding Officers to engage professionally, share experiences, and strengthen inter-agency cooperation to enhance operational outcomes.
The workshop featured lecture presentations, interactive sessions, and other activities aimed at consolidating tactical leadership capacity within the Nigerian Army.
