NSCDC Kebbi Command Commemorates International Civil Defence Day 2026, Calls for Strengthening Environmental Risk Management

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Kebbi State Command, has commemorated the International Civil Defence Day with a call to strengthen environmental risk management and collective action towards building a resilient and sustainable society.

The event, held at the NSCDC State Headquarters, Birnin Kebbi, was celebrated under the global theme “Managing Environmental Risk for a Resilient and Sustainable Future.” attracted senior officers of the Corps, representatives of sister security agencies, key stakeholders, and members of the media.

In his address, the State Commandant, Kabiru Abubakar Alkamawa, emphasized that environmental challenges such as flooding, desertification, erosion, pollution, and climate change pose serious threats to lives, livelihoods, and critical infrastructure.

He noted that Civil Defence responsibilities go beyond emergency response to include prevention, preparedness, mitigation, and community resilience.

The Commandant reaffirmed the Corps’ commitment to proactive environmental risk management through public sensitization, disaster risk reduction initiatives, protection of critical national assets, enforcement of safety regulations, and rapid response to emergencies.

Alkamawa also stressed that effective environmental risk management requires the collaboration of government agencies, traditional institutions, civil society organizations, the private sector, and citizens.

The significance of International Civil Defence Day highlighted the importance of civil defence organizations in safeguarding lives and property, promoting disaster preparedness, and enhancing cooperation among emergency and security stakeholders.

The programme featured lectures and expert reviews centered on environmental risk management, resilience building, and sustainable development, reinforcing the need for professionalism, discipline, and dedication in service to humanity.

The Kebbi State Command of the NSCDC assured the public of its continued commitment to ensuring safety, protecting critical infrastructure, and supporting national development through effective civil defence operations.
