DECLARES 2 DIVISION OPERATIONS PLANNING CADRE OPEN
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lt Gen Waidu Shaibu has called on participants to be open minded and avail themselves of the opportunity to enhance their skills on operational planning so as to boost their optimal performance.
The COAS gave the charge while declaring open a 5 – day Operations Planning Cadre for Officers within 2 Division’s Area of Responsibility, currently holding at the Division’s Headquarters in Adekunle Fajuyi Cantonment, Ibadan.

Speaking on the theme *Optimizing**Commanders*’ *Technological**Proficiency for Decisive Operational Planning within a Joint and MultiAgency Environment,* The COAS, represented by the Commandant Nigerian Army Signals School, Maj Gen Emmanuel Mustapha stated that the Division’s Operations Planning Cadre was designed to build upon the Nigerian Army’s foundational planning doctrines and prepare officers to meet the demands of modern warfare.
He further noted that the training would sharpen participants’ ability to leverage technology not merely as a tool, but as a central driver of practical and decisive operational plans.
He added that the cadre will challenge participants to integrate advanced technological tools with timeless planning principles, ensuring that the Nigerian Army remains adaptable and resilient against diverse threats.
He therefore urged commanders at tactical levels to be masters of the operational art and fluent in the language of technology.
The special Guest of Honour then charged participants to approach the training cadre with utmost seriousness with an open mind and foster seamless interoperability with sister services and other security agencies.
In his welcome remarks, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 2 Division Nigerian Army, Maj Gen Chinedu Nnebeife said that, the the success of military operations is rooted in foresight, careful planning, and deliberate execution by both staff and field commanders, particularly at the tactical and mid-career levels.
He therefore noted that the current operational environment was no longer purely conventional, but includes kinetic and non-kinetic engagements such as counter-insurgency, counter-terrorism, anti-banditry operations, peace support operations, and civil-military cooperation efforts.
The GOC further said that subalterns and middle-level career officers are the indispensable bridge between the strategic intent and the tactical realities of the front lines while noting that thriving in these complex environments, participants will be immersed in doctrinal reviews and scenario-based simulations.
He then expressed his appreciation to the COAS for his continuous guidance and support in providing the resources required to conduct the training, and urged participants to participate with absolute discipline, an analytical mind to bring frontline experiences to bear.Series of lecture were delivered by seasoned Resource Persons which included, Ground to Air Integration: Challenges and Prospects by Commander 655 Nigerian Airforce Station Ibadan, Air Cdre DU Njoku, Fake News and National Security: Safeguarding National Stability Nigeria Digital Age by Consultant Director Corporate Affairs and Information at the Nigerian Army Resource Centre, Brig Gen SK Usman Rtd and weak border Policing and National Security in Nigeria by Jibril Bio Salihu, Assistant Director Security Enforcement Oyo State Command.
